Big 7 Travel released their 2020 list of the most post popular Instagram-worthy places in the world. Here are the results.
It’s that time of the year, folks. Big 7 Travel released its 2020 list of the ‘Most Instagrammable Places in World’, with Cape Town clocking in 15th spot of the Instagram-worthy list. It’s a well-known fact that Instagram is a traveller’s best companion; the easiest way to out-do your friends and family is by simply sharing your most beautiful holiday snaps on the platform.
Most Instagrammable destinations in the world
The platform shows no signs of slowing down as the key driver in travel trends; more than 67% of users choosing to visit a destination after seeing it on Instagram. According to Big 7 Travel’s finding, approximately 61% of travellers surveyed book a specific hotel or accommodation after spotting it in their Instagram feed. The team adds: “With 77% of people surveyed taking two to five holidays a year, including weekend breaks, the most popular travel content on social media are Bucket List experiences and luxury hotels.”
How are the winners chosen?
The Big 7 Travel’s comprehensive list was compiled using a scoring system which analysed the amount of hashtags netizens used per location; taken from a survey result of the site’s 1.5m reader base.
The votes also include information from Big 7 Travel’s user surveys and votes cast by a panel of travel experts. Big 7 Travel explains that the best travel photos can be snapped at these places, and adds:
“These are the places where you’ll find sweeping stretches of beach, ancient monuments, kitsch cocktail bars and more street art than you can possibly imagine.”
Cape Town ranks 15th in the world
Cape Town was unfortunately the only South African location to make it to the list, thanks to its dramatic scenery, fantastic hiking trails, deserted beaches, and ocean views.
Big 7 Travel describes Cape Town as “an Instagrammer’s dream location” to visit. It has endless natural beauty and clifftop views, pastel pink neighbourhoods and turquoise waters.
Other cities that made it to the Top 20 list include Paris, France and Dubrovnik, Croatia; as well as Egypt’s Cairo, Istanbul in Turkey and Cusco in Peru.
