With just one week to go until the United Nations of Comedy II stars unleash their barrage of hilarity on the fans of funny, the performers have been giving their views on the show’s significance in the UAE’s expanding comedy scene. Presented by Emirates Palace, hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and organized by FLASH Entertainment, The United Nations of Comedy II is set to raise the bar for UAE comedy shows with an international showcase at Emirates Palace auditorium on August 28th and 29th. All the comedic stars will predominantly be using the English language during their hilarious performance.
Following the successful United Nations of Comedy event during Summerfest 2013, some of the world’s funniest Arab comedians will be making the Abu Dhabi audience laugh with two different live full-length comedy performances. This year will be even bigger with seven of the biggest acts in the global comedy industry including Nemr Abou Nassar, Aron Kader, Mo Amer, Khaled Khalafalla, Amir K, Ali Al Saeed and Sammy Obeid.
Acclaimed Lebanese stand up artist Nemr Abou Nassar commented on his excitement to be back in Abu Dhabi, “The UAE has such a strong, multifaceted culture, which is an amazing prospect for a comedian. You have a diverse crowd in front of you, which creates not only opportunities for comedic gold but also a very memorable time for everyone.”
Echoing his thoughts was Aron Kader, the highly regarded American-Palestinian comedian who has been making waves across the world with his unique brand of off the wall hilarity. Speaking ahead of the shows Kader said, “The lineup this year is absolutely off the charts; to get all these guys together in one place is going to be amazing. With some of the top names which have performed in Abu Dhabi, the city is starting to build a reputation as a Middle Eastern hub. The more top acts that play in the UAE, the more people are excited by it which builds their passion. It is by nurturing a hunger for comedy that we are going to develop the region into a world recognized den of talent.”
The United Nations of Comedy II shows will feature all seven of the performers appearing on stage on both nights. Most excitingly the acts will be performing two completely different sets so true fans could see their favourite comedians on stage twice in just two nights of fresh material.
Ahead of the shows, Iranian American comedian Amir K added his thoughts on the UAE’s growing scene, “the fact we’re back again shows just how much comedy is booming in the UAE and the region in general. Things have changed a lot since our first performance and it’s so exciting to see that change and growth in the scene. Abu Dhabi has taken a lead and can play a huge role in developing comedy in the Middle East. It’s an exciting time for everyone here and I hope they all come and ride the wave with us at Emirates Palace this month.”
