First place and runner ups named after sold out live show of America’s favourite Cake Boss – Buddy Valastro
65 cakes judged by Emirates Palace Executive Pastry Chef Alexander Haebe, Etihad Airways’ First Class Chef Nouel Omamalin, and budding Emirati Chef Bader Najeeb Al Awadhi.
The spotlight was on the UAE’s baking talent with the finalists and winners of the Cake Decorating competition announced at Emirates Palace hotel. As part of Abu Dhabi Summer Season, hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), organized by FLASH Entertainment and presented by Emirates Palace, cake enthusiasts and bakeries were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show off their cake decorating skills and get the chance to win amazing prizes.
More than 60 original cakes were judged by an illustrious panel including the Cake Boss himself Buddy Valastro. Emirates Palace Executive Pastry Chef Alexander Haebe, Etihad Airways’ First Class Chef Nouel Omamalin, and budding Emirati Chef Bader Najeeb Al Awadhi.
Commenting on the caliber of cakes he viewed ahead of his live show at 4pm, Buddy said, “I was so impressed with not only the taste but the level of creativity and the decorating quality of UAE cake decorators – it was awesome. I was really struck by how enthused and energetic the crowd was and it was an inspiration for me to do even more.
“It was just an honour to be here in the UAE,” he continued. “It was a lot of fun to see the reaction of the crowd and be able to see such talented work.”
Intrepid decorator Kaity Ghandi took first place in the Individuals category for her beautiful pink and gold carriage cake, winning the grand prize of a three-night stay in a Khaleej Suite at Emirates Palace and tickets to any of the exciting upcoming shows for Abu Dhabi Summer Season. House of Cakes Dubai took home first place for the Cake Shop and Bakeries category with a towering cake inspired by the lovable minions from Despicable Me for the ultimate prize of an all-inclusive trip to New York for a Behind the Scenes Tour of Carlo’s Bakery and up to four tickets to any of all of the remaining Abu Dhabi Summer Season events.
Cake Boss – Buddy Valastro’s charisma charmed more than 1000 fans that flocked to the Emirates Palace auditorium to see him live. The Cake Boss shared several tips and tricks with amateur and professional bakers alike to make their cake creations look and taste like his. A fan favourite with all age groups, Buddy interacted with the audience calling up budding bakers to showcase their emerging talents.
