“I’m committed to playing and supporting the music, artists and culture from the land I love.”
Who is she?
DJ Aries, or Akua Afram, is a Ghanaian Afrobeat DJ based in London. Her eclectic style ranges from afrofuse to alternative to hip-hop. She’s played in many prestigious venues across London, with previous residencies in Central London; Market Place, No.5 Cavendish, Ember and Dolls House. She is also the official DJ for Ghana Fashion Design Week, London Marathon/Munch Food Festival, Ghana Kitchen and several international party spots including Accra (Ghana), Lagos (Nigeria), and Helsinki (Finland).
How did she get started?
Having worked in the music and entertainment industry for almost a decade, DJ Aries has seen the rise of distinctive quality music coming from her homeland of Africa. She has also been disappointed by the lack of support within the industry, plus the lack of global exposure, which is why she became a DJ.
Moreover, her pursuits as a music lover did not stop there. In 2010, she founded Aries Music Global (AMG), a dynamic music consultancy company that promotes and markets the music of various artists’ talents to the global scale. She also managed international and MOBO award-winning artist, Rhian Benson and independent artist Iman.
Last but not least, DJ Aries teaches various accredited Music Business and Live Events Apprenticeship courses to young adults who have keen interest in music business at DV8 Training, London.
DJ Aries recently visited Dubai and showed off her skills at Afro Beats DXB on April 18th, 2014 at club 2LIV at Sofitel Hotel, Palm Jumeirah. Organized by Co-Sign Entertainment, Music & Media Management in Dubai, Afro Beats DXB is a platform for afro beat music lovers to interact and discover new music as well as party to all-time favorites and big hits.
