I was 8 and the sun was shining when I ran towards my mum in the school courtyard. I was so happy to see her that I ran as fast as I could. I was out of breath while I was hugging her. It was only when I was about to kiss her that I screamed, as I realized that I was hugging a stranger.
This woman took off her massive sunglasses and smiled at me…she was definitely not my mum. She was wearing a pair of sunglasses very similar to the ones my mum wore that covered nearly half of her face.
I hugged that woman and loved her for 20 seconds as much as I loved my mum. I had feelings for her just because in my eyes she became my mum for a few seconds.
You don’t need to get along with people to network. If you can help each other to advance professionally, feel good doing it and imagine they are wearing a pair of sunglasses just like the ones your mum used to wear.
