Who is he?
Chris Cornell was born in Seattle on July 20, 1964 and is an American rock singer, songwriter, composer, and guitarist who was born to an Irish-Catholic family. Starting from a young age, he showed great interest in music and began taking piano lessons and impressed his teacher by composing his own songs without prior coaching. He was taken to the University of Washington to continue his studies, but dropped out and started his own band.
Awards and nominations
He was nominated for the Golden Globe awards and won two Grammys during his career, and was a member of the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave.
How did it all start?
In 1984, Chris Cornell formed his band, Soundgarden, and released 7 albums after signing his label. The Band received 2 Grammys and a multi-platinum status until it broke apart in 1997.
After the band break-up, Cornell released Euphoria Morning, his first solo album in 1999, and in the year 2000, he joined the members of Rage against the Machine to form Audioslave. During this time period, the band released 3 albums titled Audioslave, Out of Exile, and Revelations. The band broke apart in 2007, after which he released another solo album titled Carry On.
In 1990, Chris Cornell creates Temple of the Dog with five other members to tribute Andrew Wood, his friend, who was a singer in Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. In 1991, they released their album titled Temple of the Dog.
He also created the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, which is teaming up witch other charity organizations to raise money for children suffering from abuse, neglect, poverty, and other problems.
His songs also appeared in several movies including 12 Years A Slave, the Keeper, and The Avengers.
In 2009, Cornell released another solo album titled Scream.
In 2010, Soundgarden reunited after a 12-year period and toured the world with their new album, King Animal.
In 2011, he released his most recent live album titled Songbook, which attracted people due to the powerful lyrics and raw voice.
Cornell just completed his 5th solo album, Higher Truth, that was just released on September 18th, and contains songs with “expressive intimacy,” similarly to his previous solo work in Songbook.
