Inaugural Dubai Festival of Lights

Showcases over 30 spectacular artistic installations

The inaugural Dubai Festival of Lights, organized by Emaar Properties, in partnership with the City of Lyon’s Festival of Lights (Fête des Lumières de Lyon), in its flagship mega-development Downtown Dubai, offered a spellbinding experience for visitors with more than 30 spectacular lighting and artistic installations. In environment-friendly LED lighting, the artistic installations cover the alleyways and public spaces of the world’s most prestigious square kilometer on earth, creating a never-before seen visually creative spectacle in the region.

The crowning glory of the Dubai Festival of Lights is a specially commissioned piece by artist and fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, whose piece ‘Metropolis Mirage’ lights up the bridge at Souk Al Bahar. Serving as metaphor between history and modern life, epitomized by its location, Castelbajac’s work is a fitting tribute to the stunning evolution to Dubai. From fantastic themed installations to video mapping, lighted sculptures, and interactive pieces, Dubai Festival of Lights marvels visitors not only for the artistic genius that goes into the illumination works, but also for the festive ambience it ushers in to ‘The Center of Now.’

Illuminate, Animate, Fascinate

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director, Emaar Properties PJSC, said, “The inaugural Dubai Festival of Lights features a sterling line-up of artworks, ushering in a new era in Dubai’s artistic sphere. Rich in design, bold in outlook, and visually spellbinding, the showcase is set to establish Downtown Dubai’s credentials as the ultimate platform for cultural excellence.”

Lionel Flasseur, Lyons International Promotion Director said, “The City of Lyon has given the best of its artistic and technical expertise in order to gather in Dubai over 30 renowned artists, who are presenting avante-premiere creations or recreations of the masterpieces they presented in the Lyon Festival of Lights. The City of Lyon is very honored to work in collaboration with Emaar Properties on this original event, in an exceptional location such as Downtown Dubai. This is a promise of a long-term collaboration between Lyon and Emaar.”
