Feliciano Lopez warmed up for his first match in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships yesterday with a spin in the Audi simulator in the Tennis Village, before taking a closer look at the Audis on display, including the superb A7 50 TFSI Quattro.
Lopez, the tournament sixth seed, laughed as he tried out the simulator, saying “Wow what a great experience, but tough. As you can see I am not very good at driving and think I will need to come back and do another test!”
Lopez, a two time finalist in Dubai, in 2004 and 2008, is happy to be back at one of his favourite tournaments and is aiming to go one better this week.
“It is great to be here again and I feel this tournament keeps improving year on year. Since my first time in coming to Dubai to play in this event, I have realized that this is one of the best tournaments in the world.
“With more courts having been added and having the hotel next door is amazing, you can walk right out and be where you need to be. It is incredible what they have been doing over the years to improve the event. I am really happy and pleased to be here this year.
“I feel good now, the season has just started and I have had some good tour stops so far. My goal is to continue to play good and stay healthy, and ideally have a winning weekend here in Dubai.”
“Having been here many times I plan after my first match to go and explore Dubai some more. There are so many new places to see. I have many friends from Spain who have moved here recently, so they will take me to all the new hot spots.”
Lopez also enjoyed looking around the Village, saying “Outside Center Court there are tons of things to do which is perfect for the fans. They do a really good job here in Dubai for both the players and the fans.”
Visitors to the Tennis Village not only have the opportunity to try the Audi simulator, but could also be lucky enough to win either an Audi A8 or Q7 by entering either one of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Surprise Draws at the Audi display in Tennis Village.
An Audi A3 is also up for grabs in the “Guess and Win” competition where fans can win the keys to an Audi A3 by guessing the numbers of tennis balls in the car parked next to Tennis Village.
Fans can also check out the latest Audis including the A7, the S3 quattro, the S8 Quattro, and the Q5 45 TFSI, all of which are on display in the Village. Audi is the official car sponsor of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and transports the players and officials in style.
Lopez won his first match yesterday against James Ward of Great Britain, and will now meet qualifier Marsel Ilhan of Turkey.
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships ATP tournament commenced on Monday with the finals on 28th February. Along with Lopez, the tournament will star defending champion and world number two Roger Federer, world number one and Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic and Australian Open runner-up Andy Murray and two time Dubai finalist Tomas Berdych.
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free, and held under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
