Defending champion Venus Williams took some time out from practice yesterday to pose with the trophy she hopes to take home for the fourth time this week. Williams, the tournament eighth seed, has already picked up one title this year, winning the ASB Classic in Auckland by defeating Caroline Wozniacki, and will be hoping to add more silverware to her collection after the finals on Saturday.
Williams will start her campaign today, February 16th, when she meets WTA Rising Star Belinda Bencic, in the second match after 7pm on Centre Court.
Action in the WTA Tournament began yesterday, and along with Williams, features Wimbledon champion and 2013 Dubai champion Petra Kvitova, French Open and WTA Finals runner-up Simona Halep, former Dubai winners Agnieszka Radwanska and Caroline Wozniacki, Brisbane runner-up Ana Ivanovic, Australian Open semi-finalist Ekaterina Makarova and recent Sydney semi-finalist Angelique Kerber. Tickets are still available for every day from the box office.
