KUFIC calligraphy transformed into 3D – a charity art exhibition in association with 3Doodler

~ Hosted by the Gallery of Light, DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates, from Nov 27th – 29th 2014 ~

Kufic is the oldest calligraphic form among the various Arabic scripts and consists of a modified form of the old Nabataean script. A brand new charity exhibition curated by Emirati artist and entrepreneur Maisoon Al Saleh brings together renowned artists from the UAE and around the world to showcase Kufic calligraphy through innovative 3D works created with a 3D printing pen.

The artists, Azza Al-Qubaisi, Darwin Japat Guevarra, Gary Yong, Janet Bellotto, Khulood Al Saleh, Mohammed H Hindash and Sertac Tasdelen, have all donated their creations to help raise funds for medical research under the patronage of Al Jalila Foundation.

“We are honoured that the artists have donated their creations to help us raise funds for medical research. The fusion of 3D printing, calligraphy and art provides the vibrant expression required to ensure that medical research is woven into the very fabric of all our philanthropic endeavours.“ Dr. Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, Chief Executive Officer Al Jalila Foundation.

The technology of the 3D printing pen has been made available by Precise Trading, who specialise in bringing 3D printing and related technology to the UAE market. The 3Doodler is an exciting product for artists, professionals and hobbyists to enhance their designs in 3D and give it a more realistic feel. Mr. Lothar Hohmann, Chairman, Precise Trading explains the contribution of 3Doodler, “The 3D printing pen brings spontaneity of the physical conceptualisation into the creative process. 3Doodler is not only a new age art tool, it also became a great tool that scratches the surface of what the world could look like tomorrow, thus creating a building block for the Medical Researchers of the future who will develop and invent new avenues by using 3D printing technology as an everyday tool.”

The exhibition, which is free to attend and open to all, will take place at the Gallery of Light, DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates, from November 27th – 29th 2014.

The opening of the exhibition starts 7pm on Wednesday November 26th and is combined with a silent auction. Everyone is welcome to take part in raising funds for medical research.
