Band Jam, Battle of the Bands

Al Ghurair Centre’s Battle of the Bands is back for its 2nd year! After its overwhelming success in November 2013, this is now the Al Ghurair Centre’s annual signature event, only bigger and better in 2014. The registration date closes on 23rd October 2014 –


The event, taking place on November 13th-15th 2014 on an outdoor stage on Al Rigga Road, will encourage budding musicians to take up the challenge and battle it out against other participating entrants. The top three winning bands will win thousands of dirhams worth of exciting prizes and a slot on TAG FM to have one track played on air.

Online registration is until 23rd October and the selected bands will be announced at the beginning of November. The whole competition, from initial rounds, semi-final and the final shows will take place from 13th to 15th November, 2014.


A panel of esteemed judges have been put together for the event including renowned local musicians and international musician icons and industry experts.

The weekend event is a fun and energetic music festival with the Battle of the Bands competitive element. Suitable for all ages and nationalities, the event will also have food & beverage kiosks, a market, merchandise booth, DJ’s and live broadcasts from TAG FM. During breaks in the competition, break dancers and hip-hop free-style acts will be keeping the crowds entertained.


The Judges –



Mark Escueta, guitarist and vocalist of Rivermaya -13th bestselling artist in the Philippines. Mark started his career back in 1994 and has since seen as steady stream of number one hits and triple-platinum status albums. Celebrating over 20 successful years in the industry, Mark and the band are scheduled to tour the US and Canada in 2015, but not before Mark judges the Al Ghurair Centre’s Band Jam battle of the bands competition.



Dia Hassan, lead guitarist and vocalist of Juliana Down – the first international quality act to come out of the region. Dia was crowned AVIMA 2009’s Best Rock Vocalist whilst Juliana Down has become a pioneering force in the music industry with an incredibly loyal following. The band has opened for a number of international artists including Muse, Guns N’ Roses and Maroon 5 and Dia recently collaborated with UAE-born electro sensation, Hollaphonic for the smash hit track ‘Found You (Stay Alive)’.



Grant Collins, originally from Dundee, Scotland started his career in music from the age of 11 having played drums at school and moving onto bass guitar at the age of 16. Working up to playing for several local bands in Toronto before moving to London, England. It was in London he began working in music retail on the famed Denmark Street, before ending up at The Bass Centre as manager. In early 2003, along with my business partner, he started Access All Areas LLC, a production company that still thrives today. A few years later he began retailing again as Musicians Warehouse Dubai. Having continued to play throughout and staying closely connected with Salha and The Million Dollar Band, as well as a founding member of Beat Antenna, He continues to expand MWD and stays immersed in the growing Dubai music scene.
