Survey Reveals That 78 Per Cent Of People Are Conscious Of What They Eat

Fitness and healthy eating survey results announced ahead of the second edition of Abu Dhabi Alive this November

A new health and wellbeing survey, conducted by Informa Exhibitions, reveals that over 62% of the respondents say they have a healthy diet, and 78% say that they are very conscious when it comes to what they eat, and how they work this in to their day-to-day lifestyles.

Although these results show a promising move in the right direction, obesity and diabetes are still two of the main health issues in the UAE. More than 62 per cent of UAE residents are at an unhealthy weight, including children and adults, and Over 25 per cent of the population has diabetes; the second highest prevalence of diabetes worldwide, so educating the public to adopt healthier lifestyles has never been more important in the UAE.

This year will be the second edition of Abu Dhabi Alive, which kicks off at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi from 13 to 15 November, and is supported by Government Partner Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the UAE Jiu Jitsu Academy as Platinum Sponsor.

A first of its kind in the UAE, visitors attending the show will have the opportunity to take part in a number of interactive health and fitness features, such as Bowling, Tennis, Mobile wall climbing, Football classes, Fitness classes, Zumba, Yoga, Cooking Demonstrations, a Ladies only Activity Area and Live talks and demonstrations.

This vertical of the show goes hand-in-hand with some of the other research findings. The survey also asked the respondents about how intensive their exercise regime is, and what their exercises of choice are.  A very healthy 47% said that they exercise anywhere from two to four times a week, and only 16% of the respondents said that they didn’t exercise at all. The activities of choice according to the findings are walking and running, which made up 54%, followed by swimming and going to the gym.

“These research findings are interesting, and really show that the public are taking both their health and general wellbeing seriously. It is our aim here at Abu Dhabi Alive to educate everyone who attends the show that exercise really doesn’t have to be gruelling and a burden on your day-to-day lifestyle, but can be both fun and extremely beneficial to your long-term health.” said Hayete Jemai, Exhibition Director at Informa Exhibitions.

“We have ensured that the exercise and sport aspect of the show is fully covered, with a wide variety of on-site activities and exhibitors to choose from. We will also be hosting a number of free onsite advice sessions with expert health and fitness professionals, as well as onsite medical checks and body composition assessments hosted by Salama Hospital. There really is something for everyone this year.” added Jemai.
