FLASH Entertainment, organizers of Yasalam, the largest city-wide entertainment programme run by any race host city, today announced the most diverse line-up of major acts to perform live in the heart of the city – on the Abu Dhabi Corniche – as part of the UAE’s biggest free music festival, Volkswagen Beats on The Beach. US R&B hit-machine Jason Derulo will be joined by one of music’s most in-demand artists, Rita Ora, one of the hip hop world’s most established performers, Juicy J, and rising star singer-songwriter Tinashe, who all bring their superstar qualities and chart smashing hits to a Live on the Corniche bill composed of some of the globe’s finest talent.
Delivering on the Yasalam promise of ensuring something for everyone, the Corniche line-up features an abundance of talent including UAE star Ruwaida Mahrooqi, regional Arabic performers Ragheb Alama, Chada Hassoun, Sabine and Two Tone, alongside Filipino sensation Charice and Bollywood crowd-puller Hard Kaur. The extensive line-up is bolstered further by some of the best UAE-based acts, hand-picked for their talents – Juliana Down, The Boxtones, Nikotin, Kicksound and Jae Franklin.
In its sixth year, the Yasalam celebrations Live on the Corniche will take place at the West Plaza and Lagoon Beach for the first time, after previously occupying the East Plaza and Al Sahil Beach. With the landmark shift in location comes one of the most diverse line-ups of performers ever seen in the UAE.
Setting the tone from the very start of Volkswagen Beats on the Beach, Thursday will include one of the most varied selection of artists featuring Filipino sensation Charice and rapper Juicy J. Rediscovering chart success with hits such as Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” the rapper has a history of delivering huge routines as part of the Three 6 Mafia and as a solo performer with tracks such as “Shell Checked” with Wiz Khalifa or “Low” with Nicki Minaj. Drawing on over 10 years of experience, his performance will have the Abu Dhabi audience dancing from start to finish. Also performing over the course of the evening will be regional Arabic songstress Chada Hassoun and Moroccan hip-hop emerging artist, Two Tone.
Friday night will be headlined by the American chart-topper and multitalented singer/songwriter, Jason Derulo – a hugely popular choice for the educated and enthusiastic Yasalam crowd. Sure to excite the thousands who fill the Corniche for Volkswagen Beats on the Beach on Friday 21st November, Derulo has established a huge global following with incredible chart success with recent top hits such as “Wiggle” and “Talk Dirty,” but also older classics such as 2010’s “Ridin’ Solo” and 2009’s “Whatcha’ Say.” When matched with fellow Friday night performers, Bollywood star Hard Kaur and Emirati artist and local favourite Ruwaida Mahrooqi, the line-up is unrivalled in depth and wide appeal.
British singer, songwriter and actress Rita Ora burst on to the international scene in 2012 with chart-topping hits “How We Do (Party)” and “R.I.P.”, immediately cementing her status as one of the top performing artists in the world. Abu Dhabi audiences are set to be not only thrilled by Ora’s renowned stage presence and her most recent hit “I Will Never Let You Down” on Saturday, 22nd November, but also by this year’s most prominent breakout young artist, Tinashe. Dubbed the next Beyoncé by the New York Times the singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, actress and former model will get the crowd singing along to her hit single “2 On” and tracks from her highly acclaimed debut album “Aquarius”. Adding more global flavour to the Saturday shows will be celebrated Lebanese icon, Ragheb Alama, who has built strong local and international followings throughout his career. Alama will be joined by rising singing songstress Sabine to deliver a sensational finale to the Volkswagen Beats on the Beach celebrations.
Additionally on Friday, November 21st, dance fans are in for a treat with another exciting addition to the Live on the Corniche activities will be Closeup’s competition to find Dubai’s best urban dancers. Closeup has teamed up with Charles Makriss, Owner & choreographer of Makriss Dance Ministry and Nadja Issa, choreographer and Artistic Director of ‘Art in the Air’, to conduct the search for the dancers who will join the #SYNCDiN Crew. Auditions will be held in universities and public parks across UAE in the run up to the Live on the Corniche activities. The top 20 dancers will be short listed and asked to form groups of up to 5 members and prepare a special performance which will be judged by Makriss and Issa at Beats on the Beach on November 21st. Five final winners will receive a cash prize of up to AED 10,000 and get a chance to attend a special dance workshop weekend in Beirut with Makriss.
Adding to the excitement Live on the Corniche will be the hugely popular F1 FanZone™: The world’s official F1 FanZone™. Allowing fans and spectators to feel the rush of the F1® with thrills and spills for motorsport enthusiasts of all ages, there’s plenty to keep the family entertained at the world’s largest and most diverse F1® fan experience.
A new addition to the Yasalam festival, the Urban Art Zone, will be delivering a fresh level of creativity to the Corniche activities. The public can watch art come to life as old shipping containers are transformed into live graffiti art, bringing the industrial heritage of Abu Dhabi into the creative world of Yasalam 2014. As part of Yasalam’s continued community outreach, the zone will also teach about upcycling and refurbishing furniture to help give back to the under-privileged in the community and offer fun and creative workshops for the whole family to enjoy.
The festival will kick off in the iconic, carnival-styled parade, Yasalam Opening Parade, with music and fancy dress costumes inspired by the big race and the worldwide host cities. The Yasalam parade will feature local school floats, a marching band and breath taking performers along the boardwalk of the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Also set to take place on the Corniche will be the first-ever Get Driver Fit Obstacle Course which will welcome all fitness enthusiasts giving them an opportunity to try their skills manoeuvring through sets of obstacles, custom-made on the beach for the Yasalam festival. The obstacle course will be open from 13th to 15th November and offer exciting prizes for participants.
The race will be held at Yas Marina Circuit from Thursday November 20th to Sunday November 23rd. Tickets to the race can be purchased from www.yasmarinacircuit.com, 800 YAS (927), Virgin Megastores and Etihad Airways Shops.
