Lorde

Full Name: Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor

Stage Name: Lorde

Birth Date: November 7th, 1996

Nationality: New Zealand

How did she get started?

Lorde performed in many singing and drama classes until she performed at 13 with Universal. She released The Love Club EP, her very first musical creation, in 2012. Her first single, “Royals,” debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40 and rapidly reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013. This step made her the first solo artist from New Zealand to have a number one song in the United States. Following her undeniable success, Lorde released Pure Heroine, her debut album, which received critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide.

Soaring Success

Lorde earned her various awards and honors. In October 2013, she jointly won the 2013 Silver Scroll award for "Royals," which celebrates exceptional songwriting accomplishments in original New Zealand pop music. For the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, Lorde received four nominations, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Royals.” In February 2014, she was chosen International Female Solo Artist at the BRIT Awards.

What’s more?

Yelich-O'Connor adopted her stage name due to her fascination with "royals and aristocracy", but added “e” to the name Lord in order to make it more feminine.

"Team"

Wait 'til you’re announced

We’ve not yet lost all our graces

The hounds will stay in chains

Look upon your greatness

That you’ll send the call out

Call all the ladies out

They’re in their finery

A hundred jewels on throats

A hundred jewels between teeth

Now bring my boys in

Their skin in craters like the moon

The moon we love like a brother, while he glows through the room

Dancin' around the lies we tell

Dancin' around big eyes as well

Even the comatose they don’t dance and tell

We live in cities you'll never see on screen

Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things

Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams

And you know, we're on each other's team

I'm kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air, so there

So all the cups got broke shards beneath our feet but it wasn’t my fault

And everyone’s competing for a love they won't receive

'Cause what this palace wants is release

We live in cities you'll never see on screen

Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things

Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams

And you know, we're on each other's team

I’m kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air

So there

I’m kinda older than I was when I reveled without a care

So there

We live in cities you'll never see on screen

Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things

Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams

And you know, we're on each other's team

We're on each other's team

And you know, we're on each other's team

We're on each other's team

And you know, and you know, and you know
