Kiesza

Who is she?

Kiesa Rae Ellestad born on January 16th 1989 is better known as Kiesza. She is a Canadian musician from Calgary.

How did she get started?

At 16, she took part in the Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS) program and later on, she joined the reserves of the Royal Canadian Navy along with her brother, becoming a NavCom (Naval Communicator). She learned how to play guitar and also entered the Miss Universe Canada pageant.

Kiesza took part in the Young Canadians, performing tap and jazz dancing, as well as theatre and ballet. Still, a knee injury at 15 ruined her ballet career. At 18, her parents’ divorce inspired her to write her first song that was played on the radio.

After attending Berklee, she went to New York City in 2010 to advance her music career. She then moved to a more "uptempo sound."

Soaring success

In 2012, Kiesza released her first single after starting work with Afuni in New York, a "disco-infused pop" single titled "Oops." What’s more, she has also written for other artists, such as Rihanna,Kylie Minogue and Icona Pop.

In February 2014 Kiesza released the video for her new single "Hideaway" through the indie label Lokal Legend.

Sound of a Woman lyrics

One more time I stand by
While you choose to cross the line
I don't know why I try
Should have left it all behind
Can't go on, can't rewind
Something holds me deep inside
What's the point, love aside
I have no more tears to cry

Baby, I don't need you
Especially not your lies
You never let my voice through and wonder while I cry

Maybe that's the sound of a woman
Maybe that's the sound that her heart makes
When she's crying out to the one man
Chaining her to love that she can't escape
You would understand if you listen
You wouldn't find her eyes focused on the door
Maybe that's the sound of a woman
Begging you to try just a little more

One more time, I'll ask why
You let me waste all those nights
Had I known, I'd have not let you step into my life
We both know that I tried not to leave it all behind
Even though I explain you still read between the lines

Baby, I don't need you
Especially not your lies
You never let my voice through and wonder while I cry

Maybe that's the sound of a woman
Maybe that's the sound that her heart makes
When she's crying out to the one man
Chaining her to love that she can't escape
You would understand if you listen
You wouldn't find her eyes focused on the door
Maybe that's the sound of a woman
Begging you to try just a little more

If you've ever think of us
Baby, you should think of everything that you gave up
While I run away from love
If I ever think of us
I will just remember what I went through when I gave up on you

Maybe that's the sound of a woman
Maybe that's the sound that her heart makes
When she's crying out to the one man
Chaining her to love that she can't escape
You would understand if you listen
You wouldn't find her eyes focused on the door
Maybe that's the sound of a woman
Begging you to try just a little more
Just a little more
