Dolder Grand’s successful gourmet festival THE EPICURE extended by a day

This year sees the third edition of THE EPICURE at The Dolder Grand in Zurich, spearheaded by the Hotel’s Chef Fine Dining Heiko Nieder. In 2016, the gourmet festival will run for one day longer than in previous years, from 14 to 18 September 2016. Answering Nieder’s call to take part are culinary giants such as Harald Wohlfahrt from Germany, Curtis Duffy from the USA, Andreas Caminada from Switzerland and Pascal Barbot from France.

 

The Dolder Grand’s gourmet festival THE EPICURE – Days of Culinary Masterpieces will be held in the luxury hotel in Zurich from 14 to 18 September 2016 and will feature internationally renowned guest chefs. Following the success of the last two editions, the gourmet festival is being extended by a day, so guests can now experience the crème de la crème of international culinary talent for a whole five days. Each element of the festival – the Evenings, the Masterclasses and the Final – will expose guests to exceptional gastronomic experiences and offer the very highest level of culinary indulgence. In just two years, the concept behind THE EPICURE has gained renown across the restaurant scene and among lovers of fine dining. The addition of the extra day is expected to increase the number of guests this year to around 700.

 

A who’s who of international top chefs
This year, THE EPICURE again has some truly epicurean treats in store. On each of the four exclusive evenings in The Restaurant, Heiko Nieder will create an eight-course menu with a different one of the following guest chefs: perfectionist Harald Wohlfahrt from the Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn, Germany (3 Michelin stars, 19.5 GaultMillau points); innovator Curtis Duffy from Grace in Chicago, USA (3 Michelin stars); all-rounder Andreas Caminada from Schauenstein Schloss Restaurant Hotel in Fürstenau, Switzerland (3 Michelin stars, 19 GaultMillau points); and sophisticate Pascal Barbot from L’Astrance in Paris, France (3 Michelin stars).

 

From Thursday through Saturday in The Dolder Grand, guests’ taste buds will be titillated at the Masterclasses – expert-led tastings of exclusive delights including caviar, cigars, spirits and cocktails. A particular highlight for chocolate-lovers this year is the Masterclass led by monsieur chocolat himself, Frédéric Bau, founder of L’École du Grand Chocolat Valrhona.

 

As a liquid alternative to the culinary delights on offer in The Restaurant during the gourmet festival, the Dolder Grand Bar is hosting a tongue-tingling session entitled World Class Drinks, where – among other things – two of Switzerland’s most skilled bartenders will mix highlights from their list of award-winning cocktails.

 

At the grand finale on Sunday 18 September 2016, guests will be whisked away on a gastronomic voyage through a smorgasbord of national cuisines and culinary styles. Heiko Nieder will be joined by multi-award-winning chefs from all over Europe to present exclusive delicacies at 11 food stations in the Gallery and the Gallery Lounges (1,000 square metres). As if that were not enough, guests can encounter the 2010 Diageo World Class Champion or one of Switzerland’s best-known Maître Fromager at a two further food stations before visiting two special stations dedicated to exquisite coffees or cigars.

 

The face of THE EPICURE
The driving force behind THE EPICURE is German culinary virtuoso Heiko Nieder, who for the past eight years has been wowing guests and critics at The Restaurant at The Dolder Grand with his intricate flavour combinations. In Heiko Nieder’s words: “I am incredibly proud that, for three years now, we have managed to persuade so many world-renowned chefs to come to Zurich, and that together with them I have had the honour of serving up dazzling dishes to our guests.” With its 2 Michelin stars and 18 GaultMillau points, The Restaurant remains Zurich’s highest-rated restaurant.
